Therapy for families

Research studies repeatedly demonstrate the effectiveness of marriage and family therapy in treating the full range of mental and emotional disorders and health problems. Adolescent drug abuse, depression, alcoholism, and family distress and conflict can be effectively treated through family therapy. Through family therapy treatment parents often report improvement in their children’s behavior, ability to get along with other children, and performance in school.

In family therapy, you’ll examine your family’s ability to solve problems and express thoughts and emotions. You may explore family roles, rules and behavior patterns in order to identify issues that contribute to conflict — as well as ways to work through these issues. Family therapy may help you identify your family’s strengths, such as caring for one another, and weaknesses, such as difficulty confiding in one another.

Our therapists work with families that have children of all ages, including adult children. They also support blended families in navigating the additional challenges of step-parenting and creating stability amongst a patchwork of family relationships.
